Die vorliegende Edition von De Stefani basiert auf den sechs Büchern von Apotelesmatica (astrologischen Gedichten auf griechischen Hexametern, 2.-5. Jhdt. n. Chr.), die fälschlicher Weise dem ägyptischen Manetho zugeschrieben wurden. Der Herausgeber hat die Handschriften, die das Werk überliefern, neu zusammengetragen. Die letzte kritische Ausgabe des Ps.-Manetho, wurde von Hermann Koechly 1858 verfasst und beruht auf der Kollation der wichtigsten Handschrift von Jacob Gronovius von 1698. Die neue Edition wird von einer Beschreibung der Textüberlieferung des Ps.-Manetho, seines Stils und Sprachgebrauchs eingeleitet und bietet dazu einen Nachtrag und ein umfangreiches Wortverzeichnis.

Claudio De Stefani (Venice, Italy, 5-XII-1963) is Associate Professor of Greek Literature at the "Università della Campania". He edited the first canto of the Paraphrase of Nonnus of Panopolis (Bologna 2002), the ecphrastic poems of Paul the Silentiary (Berlin-New York 2011), and the Arabic translation of Galen's book on fevers, De differentiis febrium (Rome, 2011). He also widely published on Hellenistic and Late Antique poetry (including editions of papyri) and on ancient medicine. He is currently working on Aristeides' edition (forthcoming in the C. U. F.) and a edition with commentary of Paulus Silentiarius and of Galen's De optimo medico cognoscendo.
