Eskalation und Deeskalation am zentralen Ort frühmittelalterlicher Königs- und Fürstenherrschaft.

Im frühen Mittelalter war der Hof ein zentraler Ort der Begegnung geistlicher und weltlicher Fürsten. Kaiser-, Königs- und Papsthöfe vereinten die Fürsten der verschiedenen Reiche und wurden daher auch zu Kristallisationspunkten des Streits. Der Hof als Zentrum der Herrschaft tritt für uns vor allem dann als Phänomen hervor, wenn das Mit- und Zueinander am Hof durch eskalierende Auseinandersetzungen infrage gestellt wird. An der Streitsituation lassen sich die Vorstellungen der Beteiligten, die impliziten Ansprüche, die an König und Große herangetragen werden, sowie die Wirkungsweise des Hofes besonders deutlich machen. Zudem können Mechanismen frühmittelalterlicher Streitkultur an dem besonders exponierten Ort des Hofes zutage kommen. Die verschiedenen Aspekte des Streits am frühmittelalterlichen Hof werden in diesem Band betrachtet und analysiert.
In the early middle ages the court was a centre for meetings of secular and clerical princes. At the court of emperors, kings, and popes, the princes of different lordships met and the court was therefore at the centre of conflict. The court as centre of rule is especially important at the moment when the cooperation at the court is questioned by escalating quarrels. In the situation of conflict the notions of the princes emerge more clearly, the implicit demands the princes were subordinated to as well as the political mode of functioning at the court. In situations of conflict the mechanism of culture of debate in the early middle ages can be observed. Different aspects of conflict at court in the early middle ages were discussed at this international congress.

Prof. Dr. Matthias Becher studierte Geschichte und Politische Wissenschaften in Konstanz und ist seit 1998 Professor für Mittelalterliche und Neuere Geschichte an der Universität Bonn. Von 2016 bis 2021 war er Sprecher des Sonderforschungsbereichs 1167, seither leitet er das Bonner Zentrum 'Macht und Herrschaft'.
