Description

Interference pigments are used worldwide in various areas of application. They are characterized by optical properties that distinguish them from absorbing pigments. Users of interference pigments are very interested in learning more about interference pigments.

Unlike colored pigments, interference pigments do not absorb parts of the incident light, but split it and recombine it. The resulting color depends on the layout of the pigment and the angle of the incident light and the observation angle. This results in analytical methods using color measurement. The focus is on the different colors of this type of pigment, the reactions of the pigments in mixtures with other pigments and, in particular, the resulting colors. Based on many experiments, the results are presented with the help of color measurements.

The book is essential for all users in industry and universities. It serves both as an introduction to the optics of interference pigments and as a reference work.

Werner Rudolf Cramer studied chemistry at the University of Münster. After graduating, he set up his own business as a consultant for car coatings and colors. New colors were just as much a part of his portfolio as new painting methods. He was invited to work on a new type of color measuring instrument, with which interference pigments could be measured comprehensively for the first time. He is co-founder of the subcommittee of the US-ASTM, which defined the measurement geometries for interference pigments. He has published his experiments and work with interference pigments worldwide in various languages, authored books and book chapters.
