This urgent and timely book traces peasant resistance to the advance of destructive capitalist agriculture in Brazil.

As debates about "sustainable development", ecosocialism, agroecology, and the production of healthy food have become increasingly popular in Europe and across the world, we should turn our focus to the peasant movements who pioneered alternative forms of agriculture. By socialising the results of their research, the authors show us how peasant resistance prefigures alternative forms of labour based on agroecology, cooperation, and cooperativism. The book also focuses on the agroecology schools of one of the main social movements of our time: The Landless Workers' Movement (MST).
