This book presents the first comprehensive synthesis of mesoscale eddies in the South China Sea (SCS), a region whose unique dynamic environment supports the year-round generation and evolution of energetic eddies. Mesoscale eddies, with diameters of 100-500 km and lifespans from days to months, account for over two-thirds of oceanic kinetic energy and constitute a fundamental component of the global energy cascade linking large-scale circulation to sub-mesoscale and small-scale processes.
