According competency-based curriculumwith competency based curriculum recently released by Medical Council of India (MCI). The specific learning objectives (SLOs) are framed for each chapter along with alignment of teaching and assessment methods.Let's think boxes: Through the given questions in these boxes, the students will be able to grasp the fundamentals to learn their clinical application and correlation with theory.Easy to follow: It is written in simple English where the instructions are given in the form of tables or flowcharts.Application of knowledge in all the sections: It would enable the students to apply practically obtained knowledge in the clinical conditions.Practical assessment: The guidelines for practical assessment are given in the beginning of the workbook. Another assessment table is added in this book for the certification of certain procedural skills, as made mandatory by the MCI.Communication skills: A special emphasis has been laid on the importance and need of developing the affective domain from the first year itself. Hence, a chapter on Communication has been added in the Human Physiology section. Based on the competencies proposed by Medical Council of India in AETCOM module; two new chapters on Doctor-Patient Relationship and Foundation of Communication Skills are added in the book with 4-5 modules in each to facilitate longitudinal teaching of AETCOM.Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR): A chapter on CPR (basic life support) is added in this book as per the latest guidelines of the American Heart Association. This chapter has been reviewed and updated by the Department of Anesthesia, with whom we constantly collaborate to give the BLS training to our first year MBBS students.Calculations: Some important calculations are given in the Section 5 of book for the understanding of concepts of measurement of physiological quantities like cardiac output, GFR, functional residual volume, etc.Early clinical exposure: Early clinical exposure system-wise clinical case scenarios are given to enhance the higher level of learning of basic concept of applied physiology.Self-directed learning (SDL): Comprehensive SDL modules are provided for students with the SLOs to aid in self learning styles.Spots: A chapter on Relevant Spots from all the sections is added where the students are required to write the identification features and their uses.
