Born in the Occupied Territory of a Cyprus divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion, Kyriacos Efthymiou always carries the burden of sorrow and the displacement of the refugee, something that is also amply reflected in these short stories. This edition features translations by Barbara Danis, Peter Bottéas, and Vassiliki Rapti, with revisions by Peter Bottéas, reflecting meticulous attention to voice and atmosphere. At its heart, the book contemplates truth and silence, love and exile, and the quiet resistance found in lives shaped by hope and suffering. Kyriacos Efthymiou wurde in Nikosia geboren. Er studierte Theater in Athen und arbeitete als Schauspieler am Nationaltheater von Zypern und als Produzent von Kulturprogrammen im Radio. Er hat seine Gedichte und Kurzgeschichten in mehreren Städten und Universitäten in Europa und den USA vorgestellt. Er reiste viel, um sich selbst und die Welt zu verstehen, jedoch ohne Erfolg.Zu seinen Veröffentlichungen gehören die Gedichtbände pi s ni phi GammaGamma [Der Mond wurde gefangen] (1993) und The Hunched Salt Merchant (2015), die mit dem Staatlichen Poesiepreis der Republik Zypern ausgezeichnet wurde, die Theaterstücke Gamma ni pi mi [Auch dieser Krieg ist geschehen] (1982, Erster Preis des Pancyprian State Theatre Contest), To mi [Die Lüge] (1986), mi pi ni d ni pi ni [Die kommenden Tage existieren nicht] (2009) und die Kurzgeschichten ni Gamma - Delta Delta Gamma mi [Das rote Pferd - Achtzehn Kurzgeschichten] (2020, Shortlist für den Staatspreis). Er schrieb auch das Drehbuch I wish It Would Rain (1992) und übersetzte Russel Lees, Nixon's Nixon (Theater), 2002.
