The longing for her father determined the life of the small daughter of a German soldier in the town of Liegnitz in Lower Silesia, the eastern province of Germany. Her father lost his life at the Russian front early in World War II. The bereaved family experienced hardships and dangers until they were finally driven out of their home and country in June 1946.
Even as an adult, the girl could only escape in her Fantasy from the harsh reality and poverty in the post-war years. In her dreams she envisaged a bright future of travels and life in foreign countries.
In this book Brigitte Randolph relates not only her turbulent life, her good and bad experiences, her happiness and hopes, but also her awful premonitions and deepest despair at the death of her beloved husband who lost his life in the attempt to save a white comrade.
