Industrial facilities typically exhibit an increased loss potential in case of an earthquake as damages may lead to wide-ranging ecological consequences. Repair and replacement of damaged process components, loss of processed and stored goods and production downtime are expensive. State-of-the-art seismic design of industrial facilities, thus, requires a profound knowledge and understanding of the seismic behaviour of the structural and non-structural components, it should consider relevant interaction effects and take into account the individual hazard potential of the plant.
