Die christlichen Kirchen in Ost und West haben geschichtlich eine bedeutsame Rolle beim Aufbau und bei der Ausgestaltung von Gesellschaften gespielt. Auch heute noch verstehen sie sich als wichtige Mitgestalter sozialer Strukturen. Jedoch scheint es innerhalb der Kirchen teilweise an einem Konsens darüber zu fehlen, wie sie sich in einen gesellschaftlichen Diskurs einbringen sollen. Reicht es aus, auf das weitgehend geklärte Verhältnis zwischen Kirche und Staat zu vertrauen? Wie kann die Kirche ihre Sendung erfüllen, ohne die Welt außerhalb ihres rechtlich geschützten Raums anderen zu überlassen? Welche Erwartungen werden heute an die Kirche gerichtet? Diesen Fragen stellen sich im vorliegenden Band Vertreter unterschiedlicher theologischer Disziplinen der katholischen und der orthodoxen Kirche, aber auch aus anderen Wissenschaftsbereichen.The Christian churches in East and West have historically played a significant role in building and shaping societies. Even today, they still see themselves as important contributors to social structures. However, there seems to be a lack of consensus within the churches as to how they should engage in social discourse. Is it enough to rely on the largely clarified relationship between church and state? How can the church fulfil its mission without leaving the world outside its protected space to others? What expectations are placed on the church today? In this volume, representatives of various theological disciplines from the Catholic and Orthodox churches, as well as from other academic fields, address these questions
