Description
This book offers insights into the biodiversity protection in the forest ecosystems of one of Europe's biodiversity hotspots: the Ukrainian Carpathians. After portraying the applicable international provisions, it examines the Ukrainian legislation and the state of implementation of international obligations. Based on a series of semi-structured interviews, the author identifies the remaining threats and risks to biodiversity. The review of best practices for mitigating these and an exploration of synergies between legal regimes enabled the suggestion of lines of change for enhancing biodiversity protection in the region. This work may be valuable to those interested in international law, Ukraine's legal system and conserving biodiversity.
