Highlighting the changes that have taken in the area of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia research, this text reviews both well established methods of banding and the newer fluorescent "in-situ" hybridization, Southern blotting and polymerase chain reaction techniques. Important translocations, partial deletions and chromosone gains and losses are illustrated and the clinical and molecular significance of each is described.
