A discussion of information on the clinical characteristics, immunopathogenesis and treatment of atopic dermatitis. This work highlights advances in the immunology and pathophysiology of atopic skin. A detailed review is provided of current and potential approaches to the management of this increasingly common illness. The clinical manifestations of atopic dermatitis are reviewed along with the role of T cells, eosinphils and other cell types in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis. The role of food and inhalent allergens as well as infectious agents are also reviewed and an integrated approach to the management of atopic dermatitis is presented.
