This text discusses immunoglobins and especially the development of monoclonal antibodies as human therapeutics. It traces the successes and limitations of rodent monoclonal antibodies in the clinic and describes new techniques of genetic and protein engineering which have been devised to overcome these limitations to human in vivo use. It also discusses methods of making human monoclonal antibodies and provides an overview of the great range of novel formulations of antibody fragments which can be used to improve on the efficacy of the native molecule.
