»Warum studierst du Theologie?« Dieser Frage geht Maximilian Baden anhand einer quantitativen, fragebogenbasierten Studie nach, die 2016 bis 2018 im ganzen deutschsprachigen Raum stattfand. Knapp 600 Erstsemester im Theologiestudium (Pfarramt/Magister) haben Auskunft zu ihrer Studienmotivation gegeben. Im Hintergrund steht dabei ein Multi-Komponenten-Modell der Studienmotivation. Situative und persönliche Aspekte spielen darin genauso eine Rolle wie der Blick auf die eigene Zukunft. Besonders die Interessen und die Religiosität der Studierenden wurden als Komponenten identifiziert, die ihre Motivation leiten. Ausgehend von diesen (und anderen) Grundlagen wird ausführlich die Perspektive der Studierenden auf das Theologiestudium, den Pfarrberuf und die Zukunft der Kirche untersucht.[Why Are You Studying Theology? A Study on Motivation of Students in the First Semester]»Why are you studying theology?« Maximilian Baden investigates this question on the basis of a quantitative, questionnaire-based study that took place in the entire German-speaking region in 2016-2ß18. Almost 600 freshmen in theology studies provided information on their motivation to study. A multi-component model of "motivation" is in the background. Situational and personal aspects play just as much a role as a view of one's own future. In particular, the interests and religiosity of the students were identified as components that guide their motivation. On the basis of these (and other) components, the students' perspective on 'studying theology', the 'pastoral profession' and the 'future of the Church' is examined in detail.

Maximilian Baden, Dr. theol., Jahrgang 1989, studierte Evangelische Theologie in Göttingen, Wien und Bonn. 2020 wurde er mit der vorliegenden Arbeit am Lehrstuhl für Praktische Theologie an der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen promoviert. Seit 2019 ist er Vikar der ev.-luth. Landeskirche Hannovers in Celle.
