Die Agende ist Anwalt der Kirche gegenüber den flatterhaften Tagesemotionen des Liturgen. Aber Liturgie funktioniert nur, wenn sie gesprochen wird, als handle es sich um individuell geprägte Texte. Das ist das Geheimnis liturgischer Kunst. 'Was hat nun der Geistliche hier zu tun? Im Wesentlichen hat er es mit der Sprache zu tun', schrieb schon Schleiermacher. Die 'religiöse Thätigkeit' des Liturgen sei das Mittel, 'die religiöse Thätigkeit aller anderen zu erhöhen. Dies fällt in den Begriff der Kunst' (Praktische Theologie, 75). Mit der Kunst der Sprache in der Liturgie beschäftigte sich das 3. Internationale Bugenhagen-Symposium in Braunschweig im September 2011, das hier dokumentiert wird.

The Agenda is the advocate of the church against the volatile daily emotions of the liturgist. Yet liturgy is only successful if it is spoken like individually shaped texts. This is the secret of the art of liturgy. 'Then what is the clergyman's task here? He is primarily concerned with language', Schleiermacher wrote. The 'religious task' of the liturgist is the means 'by which the religious activity of everybody else is elevated. This is the domain of art' (Practical Theology, p. 75). The art of liturgical speech is the topic of the Third International Bugenhagen Symposium held in September 2011 in Brunswick, which is documented in this volume.
