Gegen Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts begann man an protestantischen deutschen Gymnasien, erstmals selbstständige Unterrichtsstunden in Universalgeschichte abzuhalten. In diesem Band werden zwei der verbreitetsten Lehrbücher der Epoche vorgestellt, ihre Verwendung im Schulunterricht verfolgt und ihre historiographische Konstruktion diskutiert. Neben Tabelle, Text und Diktat gehörten Historische Bilder und Fragen aus der Historie zu den beliebtesten und, trotz aller Kritik, wohl auch erfolgreichsten Lehrmethoden des vormodernen Geschichtsunterrichts.[Historical Images" and "Questions out of the Historia".
