"Ich suchte nach Leuten, die entrechtet waren. Sie waren politisch und wirtschaftlich entrechtet, und - um die Wahrheit zu sagen - sie waren auch musikalisch entrechtet", sagte Sam Phillips, der Gründer von Sun Records in einem Interview über seine Motivation bei der Suche nach Talenten.

Peter Guralnick ist ein US-amerikanischer Musikkritiker und Autor von Büchern über amerikanische Populärmusik und ihre Geschichte, der auch als Autor und Drehbuchschreiber tätig ist. 1971 schloss er die Boston University mit einem Masterdegree in Kreativem Schreiben ab und arbeitete seither als Autor.
