Description

This book provides a comprehensive review of topics in fertility and assisted conception written by experts in the field. It fills an important gap in knowledge and serves as a valuable resource for nurses in all areas of fertility care. The fertility nurse plays a key role in providing fertility care to those trying to conceive. Their role involves investigation, treatment, and management of early pregnancy through informed, compassionate, and evidence-based practice. There is currently a lack of books tailored to nurses in the fertility sector. Hence, this will be the very first book on infertility care for nurses. Infertility is a growing field, with 2 million IVF cycles worldwide in 2000, 5 million IVF in 2010, 10 million in 2020, an expected 15 million by 2025, 50 million by 2035, and 150 million IVF cycles worldwide by 2050. This will result in a significant increase in nursing requirements in this field. There is no nursing training for infertility and IVF and most nurses learn on the job. It is often a slow process taking 6 or more months to develop a mild understanding of what is a very complex field. As such a book geared to nurses would be ideal to have.
