Full Description
Some of the most important weapon systems in U.S. history--deployed under Bill Middendorf's tenure as Secretary of the Navy (1974-1977)--contributed to the ending of the Cold War, including the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine fleet, Trident missiles, the Aegis Battle Managed Systems and the FA-18 warplane. Times have changed. NATO is no longer the cornerstone of European security and U.S. allies in the Pacific are not unified. Arguing for investment in cyber war, space war and AI technology, the author describes threats facing the U.S. as China seeks military superiority, Russia continues to build its nuclear arsenal, modernize its submarine force and expand its presence in the Arctic, North Korea expands its nuclear programs, and Iran foments violence in the Middle East.
