Taking place in the wee hours of the morning, the story follows a pregnant woman as she samples and snacks her way through the pantry. When she ultimately goes into labor, the birth of her baby and the discovery of her new identity as a mother mirror the transformation of Eric Carle's hungry caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly.
