Full Description
This critical compendium is a conscientious attempt to dissect and appraise forty plays by thirty-five Indian playwrights. It also aims to include dramatists ranging from the most famous to the lesser-known dramatists, thereby illuminating aspects that have remained hitherto unexplored by many scholars and faculty members. Five playwrights are represented through two plays each, while only one play has been selected for the remaining playwrights. This voluminous compendium charts variegated thematic, ideological, and stylistic contours that narrate the real position of Indian drama from a contemporary perspective. The selection of texts spans centuries—from classical Sanskrit dramaturgy to the most recently published works in Contemporary Indian English Drama—featuring regional voices alongside globally acknowledged playwrights, thus, rendering a kaleidoscopic view of Indian dramatic traditions. This compendium, which collates a wide corpus of plays, secures an esoteric distinction among comparable publications on Indian Drama in English.
