Bartóks 1910/11 entstandenes Allegro barbaro gehört zu seinen bekanntesten und beliebtesten Klavierwerken. Auch der Komponist selbst trug es gerne bei öffentlichen Auftritten vor und spielte es mehrfach ein. Die von ihm als "authentische Aufnahme" bezeichnete Einspielung von 1929 weist in Artikulation, Tempo und sogar der Anzahl der Ostinatotakte hochinteressante Varianten gegenüber dem Druck auf. Diese werden in unserer Urtext-Ausgabe erstmals in den Notentext übernommen und kommentiert. Der Notentext der Urtextausgabe, herausgegeben vom Bartók-Forscher László Somfai, ist dem Band der Bartók-Gesamtausgabe entnommen.

Composed in 1910/11, Bartók's Allegro barbaro is one of his best-known and most popular works for piano. The composer himself enjoyed performing it in concerts, and recorded it several times. The recording from 1929, which he referred to as the "authentic recording", contains very interesting divergences from the printed version as far as articulation, tempo and even the number of ostinato measures are concerned. For the first time, these have been included in the musical text of our Urtext edition, and also annotated. The musical text of this Urtext edition, edited by Bartók expert László Somfai, is taken from the relevant volume of the Bartók Complete Edition.
