Die Französische Ouvertüre BWV 831 veröffentlichte J.S. Bach 1735 zusammen mit dem berühmten Italienischen Konzert als zweiten Teil seiner "Clavier-Übung". Die Bezeichnung als "Ouvertüre" mag etwas täuschen, denn bei diesem Werk handelt es sich nicht nur um einen Eröffnungssatz, sondern um eine ausgewachsene Partita mit 11 Sätzen: Ouvertüre, Courante, Gavotte I & II, Passepied I & II, Sarabande, Bourrée I & II, Gigue und Echo. An melodischem Einfallsreichtum und rhythmischer Spielfreude steht sie ihren Schwestern aus dem 1. Teil der "Clavier-Übung", den 6 Partiten BWV 825-830, in nichts nach.

Ouverture nach französischer Art (Partita h-moll) BWV 831

In 1735 Johann Sebastian Bach published his French Overture BWV 831 together with the famous Italian Concerto as the second part of his "Clavier-Übung". The designation Ouvertüre (Overture) can be somewhat misleading, since this work consists not just of an opening movement but also of a full-fledged partita with 11 movements: Ouvertüre, Courante, Gavotte I & II, Passepied I & II, Sarabande, Bourrée I & II, Gigue and Echo. In terms of melodic richness and rhythmic play it is on a par with its sister-pieces from Part 1 of the "Clavier Übung", the 6 Partitas BWV 825-830.

French Overture (Partita b minor) BWV 831
Bach publia l'ouverture dans le style français BWV 831 en 1735, en même temps que son célèbre concerto italien, tous deux constituant la deuxième partie de sa Clavier-Übung. Le terme d'ouverture peut prêter à confusion, car il ne s'agit pas ici du mouvement d'ouverture d'une oeuvre, mais d'une partita à part entière constituée de 11 mouvements: Ouverture, Courante, Gavotte I & II, Passepied I & II, Sarabande, Bourrée I & II, Gigue et Écho. En termes d'invention mélodique et de jubilation rythmique, elle n'a rien à envier aux six partitas BWV 825-830 de la première partie de la «Clavier-Übung».
