Für die Besetzung Klavierquintett sind nur wenige wirklich bedeutende Werke entstanden - neben den berühmten Beiträgen von Schubert, Schumann und Brahms gehört das 1887 komponierte Quintett von Antonín Dvorák unbedingt dazu. In ihm zeigt sich der reife Meister, der formale Geschlossenheit mit melodischem Einfallsreichtum und mitreißender Rhythmik zu verbinden weiß. Mit seinen folkloristisch inspirierten Themen hat sich sein Klavierquintett zu einem der beliebtesten Kammermusikwerke Dvoráks, ja der romantischen Literatur überhaupt etabliert. Höchste Zeit also für eine Henle-Urtextedition - 60 Jahre nach Erscheinen der tschechischen Gesamtausgabe ist ein frischer Blick auf die Quellen fällig, darunter natürlich das Autograph im Nationalmuseum Prag.

Very few really important works have been written for piano quintet - alongside the famous works by Schubert, Schumann und Brahms, the quintet that Antonín Dvorák composed in 1887 certainly numbers amongst them. It shows the mature master at work, who knew how to combine formal unity with melodic ingenuity and sweeping rhythms. With its ethnic-inspired themes the piano quintet has become one of Dvorák's best-loved chamber music works, indeed even of Romantic literature in music. So it was high time for a Henle Urtext edition - 60 years after the Czech Complete Edition was published, it was time for a fresh look at the sources, including the autograph in the National Museum in Prague.

Piano Quintet A major op. 81
Seules quelques oeuvres majeures furent composées pour la formation de quintette avec piano - à côté des chefs-d'oeuvre de Schubert, Schumann et Brahms, le Quintette de Dvorák, écrit en 1887 en fait incontestablement partie. En lui se révèle le vrai maître qui sait combiner à la cohérence formelle une riche inspiration mélodique et des rythmes captivants. Avec ses thèmes à connotation folklorique, son quintette avec piano est devenu l'une des oeuvres de musique de chambre les plus populaires de Dvorák, voire même de toute la littérature romantique. Le moment est donc venu pour une édition Henle Urtext - 60 ans après la parution de l'édition tchèque des oeuvres complètes, un nouveau regard sur les sources s'impose, parmi lesquelles figure bien évidemment l'autographe conservé au Musée national de Prague.
