Am 23. August 1841 schreibt Chopin an den Wiener Verleger Mechetti: "Ich habe augenblicklich ein Manuskript zu Ihrer Verfügung. Es ist eine Art Fantasie in Form einer Polonaise, die ich Polonaise nennen würde." Die Unsicherheit Chopins über den Titel ist nur zu verständlich. Das Werk beginnt als stolze Polonaise. Dann bricht eine Passage herein, in deren Verlauf unerbittlich über 30-mal eine Oktave a angeschlagen wird. Dieser nahezu modern wirkende Abschnitt mündet in eine Mazurka, die aus einer anderen, entrückten Welt zu stammen scheint. Wir legen diese "Art Fantasie", die bislang nur im Gesamtband Polonaisen (HN 217) erhältlich war, als revidierte Einzelausgabe vor.

On 23 August 1841 Chopin wrote to the Viennese publisher Mechetti: "I currently have a manuscript available for you. It is a kind of fantasia in the form of a polonaise that I would call Polonaise". Chopin's uncertainty about the title is only too understandable.
The work begins as a proud polonaise. Then a passage bursts in during which an octave a is relentlessly played more than thirty times. This almost modern sounding passage leads into a mazurka that seems to come from a different, enraptured world. We are now publishing this "kind of fantasia", previously only available in our edition of all the polonaises (HN 217), in a revised single edition.
