Wie in allen reifen Kammermusikwerken tritt Ravel auch in seinem 1914 entstandenen Klaviertrio als Erneuerer traditioneller Formen und Techniken auf. So entspricht der "Passacaglia"-Satz dem zugrunde liegenden Schema aus der Barockzeit. Die Musik selbst hingegen, so äußerte Ravel, sei "wie von Saint-Saëns", was sicher ironisch gemeint war. Denn die historisierende Schablone dient ihm nur als Rahmen für tonsprachliche Experimente: vom stetigen Pendeln zwischen Dur und Moll bis hin zu Kombinationen und Überlagerungen verschiedenartiger Metren. Für unsere Ausgabe dieses technisch äußerst anspruchsvollen Werkes konnte der renommierte französische Pianist Pascal Rogé als Fingersetzer gewonnen werden._

As with all of his mature chamber music works Ravel also emerges as an innovator of traditional forms and techniques in his piano trio, composed in 1914. Thus the "Passacaglia" movement corresponds to the underlying form of the Baroque Period.
The music on the other hand was, according to Ravel, "like that of Saint-Saëns", which was surely meant ironically. For the historicizing template only served as a framework for experiments with musical idiom: from a constant oscillation between major and minor to combinations and overlaying of the most diverse metres. The fingering for our edition of this technically extremely demanding work was provided by the renowned French pianist Pascal Rogé._
Comme pour toutes ses oeuvres de musique de chambre de la maturité, Ravel se présente dans son trio pour piano, violon et violoncelle composé en 1914 comme un novateur en matière de formes et techniques traditionnelles. Ainsi la «Passacaille» du trio répond au schéma correspondant de la période baroque. La musique même par contre, comme l'exprime Ravel, «c'est du Saint-Saëns», ce qui était à coup sûr pour lui une façon de dire ironique. Car le modèle historisant lui sert seulement de cadre pour des expériences musicales: depuis le balancement constant entre majeur et mineur jusqu'aux combinaisons et interférences de différents mètres. Le pianiste renommé Pascal Rogé a accepté d'apporter le doigté pour notre édition de cette oeuvre très exigeante sur le plan technique d'exécution._
