Clementi trat gegen Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts verstärkt für das Klavier in Nachfolge des Cembalos ein. Er komponierte ausdrücklich für das neue Instrument und veröffentlichte 1801 eine Klavierschule. Zeugnis seines pädagogischen Interesses sind auch die "Six progressive Sonatinas" op. 36 - sechs Sonatinen in aufsteigendem Schwierigkeitsgrad, die bis heute im Klavierunterricht außerordentlich beliebt sind. Unsere Urtextausgabe folgt der etablierten Veröffentlichungstradition, indem sie dem Notentext die Erstausgabe von 1797 zugrunde legt. Clementis - erstaunlich moderner - originaler Fingersatz wurde im gesamten Werk übernommen.

Towards the end of the 18th century, Clementi increasingly advocated the piano as the successor to the harpsichord. He composed expressly for the new instrument and in 1801 published a piano school.
His interest in teaching is also shown by the "Six progressive Sonatinas" op. 36 - six sonatinas in ascending order of difficulty, which are still extremely popular with today's piano teachers. Our Urtext edition follows the long established practice of using the musical text of the first edition from 1797. Clementi's original fingering, which is surprisingly modern, has been included throughout the work._

Vers la fin du XVIIIe siècle, Clementi s'engagea plus fortement pour le piano à la suite du clavecin. Il composa expressément pour le nouvel instrument, publiant en 1801 une méthode de piano. Les «Six Sonatines progressives» op. 36, six sonatines de difficulté croissante très appréciées aujourd'hui encore dans l'enseignement du piano, témoignent de son intérêt pédagogique. La présente édition suit en matière de publication la tradition établie en prenant comme base le texte de la première édition de 1797. Le doigté original de Clementi, étonnamment moderne, a été repris dans l'ensemble de la partition.
