Full Description
This book looks at the Islamic Common Market (ICM) of the Organization of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), the world's leading international Islamic organization. The ICM is a long-term goal of the OIC to achieve economic integration among member states by fostering the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labour, similar to other common markets but within an Islamic framework of transactions. This book offers simulations that tie it to ummah's social economy. This book charts the Islamic Common Market as a new wave of thought and activity towards this most important event of the ummah. Assessing its wider goals for 2050, and its forthcoming initiation in 2030, it considers the organization's past accomplishments and forthcoming challenges, in concert with its moral and material potentiality, and in relation to that of the socio-economic world-system. The author maps the OIC's aims to preserve Islamic social and economic values, promote solidarity amongst member states, increase cooperation in social, economic, cultural, scientific, and political areas, uphold international peace and security, and advance education, particularly in science and technology. Relevant to social scientists focused on Islam, this is a timely review of the Islamic Common Market of the Organization of Islamic Co-operation, and its role in the global system. The book will be of interest to scholars in international relations, Islamic socio-economic development, and Islamic studies more widely.
