The Prix Goncourt-winning novel The Ogre is a story about a son who has become dependent on his noisy and brutal father. The father dies, and the son buries his life in the grave, the bitterness and poverty of which the author describes with childlike power, alternating the language of the Book of Job with the Dionysian grammar of love.
