Full Description
The studies presented at the Seminar for Biblical Scholars, held at the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome in January 2024, represent advances in New Testament research. Distinguished scholars who are engaged in interdisciplinary dialogue examine the Greco-Roman redactional context and intended audiences of New Testament texts, survey intersections between Roman and provincial legal frameworks and biblical frameworks, and evaluate New Testament literary genres and techniques within the early imperial literary context. Emphasizing sources often overlooked in New Testament exegesis, the authors integrate insights from archaeology, papyrology, epigraphy, sociology, literature, ancient law, and religious history. Grasping the cultural and historical milieu of the New Testament provides valuable perspectives for both biblical scholars and other specialists in ancient studies.
