Full Description
This collection of essays brings together senior and junior scholars to explore diverse approaches to Dido, Queen of Carthage, both inside and outside of Virgil's epic. One of the several thematic threads in this collection of essays is the issue of Dido's much debated agency both in the Augustan narrative and in the tradition preceding and following it. This volume contextualizes Dido's historicity and brings into focus conflicting versions of Dido beyond her famous rendition in Vergil's Aeneid.
