Full Description
Herodotus credits Homer and Hesiod with providing the Greeks with the image of their gods, but Greek lyric had a lot to say about this as well. This book examines the engagement of early Greek lyric poetry with the divine in the light of new scholarly approaches, both to lyric and to Greek religion, and the discovery of new lyric fragments in the last few decades. It focuses on the religious contexts in which lyric poetry was performed, the imagery used for the divine, and the communication between humans and gods expressed in these texts.
