The subject matter in this book is divided into five chapters, coveringpreliminaries; groups; rings; modules and vector spaces; and fields and Galois theory. Chapter 1 contains fundamental results on sets, mappings, and equivalence relations, with a section devoted to the axiom of choice and results on countability of sets. Chapter 2 looks at groups and describes definitions and examples, cosets, normalizer, centralizer, communators, homomorphisms, symmetric groups, class equations, direct products and Sylow's theorem. Other topics include: rings; fields of fractions; results on modules; and normal and separable extensions.
