Unter dem Titel Building Register verfolgen wir das Ziel, interessante Bauten und Anlagen aus unterschiedlichen Zeiten zu untersuchen und als Referenz für heutige Themen in das Bewusstsein desentwerfenden Architekten zu rücken. Dabei sind uns enzyklopädische Ansprüche fern, es geht vielmehr darum, präzise ausgewählte Teilaspekte zu untersuchen und darzustellen.
Thematisch beschäftigen wir uns mit den Bereichen vom urbanen Maßstab bis zum Detail, wobei der Fokus in den Beziehungen und Spannungen zwischen den unterschiedlichen Betrachtungsebenen liegt. Das kann die innere Strukturierung einer grossen Wohnanlage im Verhältnis zu deren urbaner Form beinhalten oder die prägende Gegenwart eines Materials oder Details im Hinblick auf die urbane Wirkung eines Gebäudes. Großes Gewicht wird auf die zeichnerische Darstellung der beobachteten Phänomene und Analysen gelegt.

Building Register is a drawing and research programme which examines historically significant buildings using them as a reference within the current architectural debate on housing and urbanism. The programme takes the form of a survey which documents both the general characteristics of the project and selected areas of detailed study. The buildings will be explored from the urban scale to the detail of a room or construction assembly. This may include the internal structure of a large residential complex in relation to its urban form, or the defining presence of a material or detail in view of the urban effect they have.
Significant emphasis is placed on the graphic representation of the observed phenomena and analysis. The art of drawing is therefore central to this study. The programme will be carried out in small student groups and encouragement is given to develop a strong sense of collaboration, with shared authorship and research. Such a way of working reflects the realityof professional work and in this way the programme offers an initiation and foundation for future practice.
