The collection of Oriental manuscripts at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz forms with its 42,000 volumes one of the most significant collections of its kind in the world. A special place therein take the many Bible manuscripts. This book, written in German and English, introduces in twenty-one richly illustrated contributions to the multifaceted reception and transmission history of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. In their various Near and Middle Eastern and African languages, these manuscripts bear witness to the crucial importance of the Bible from Antiquity to the 19th century - among almost all communities of the region.
