Hightech: Überleben oder Untergang?
Im aktuellen Diskurs um die Zukunft der Menschheit wird zunehmend die Gefahr ins Zentrum gerückt, die von Umweltzerstörung und Klimawandel für das Überleben unserer Spezies ausgeht. Globale politische Bewegungen fordern einen sofortigen ökologischen Paradigmenwechsel auf allen Ebenen der Gesellschaft. Ob Künstliche Intelligenz, Blockchain-Technologie, Big Data oder Bioengineering - die Rolle, die Technologie dabei spielen kann und sollte, wird kontrovers diskutiert. In einer Flut von widersprüchlichen Informationen über den Zustand der Welt und angesichts des rasanten technologischen Fortschritts wird es zunehmend schwieriger, den Status quo zu evaluieren.
Die Ausstellung Survival of the Fittest - Zum Verhältnis von Natur und Hightech in der zeitgenössischen Kunst im Kunstpalais in Erlagen zeigt zehn künstlerische Positionen, die in Fotografie, Video, Plastik, Installation und Performance das komplexe Verhältnis von Natur und Hightech verhandeln. Der ausstellungsbegleitende Katalog enthält ein Vorwort von Amely Deiss, eine Einführung der Kuratorin Milena Mercer und zehn Interviews mit den beteiligten Künstler*innen: Christina Agapakis, Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg und Sissel Tolaas; Tega Brain, Julian Oliver und Bengt Sjölen; James Bridle; Simon Denny; Anna Dumitriu und Alex May; Futurefarmers; Páll Ragnar Pálsson und Andreas Greiner; Paul Seidler, Paul Kolling und Max Hampshire; Jonas Staal; und Pinar Yoldas.
High Tech: Survival or Perdition?
The contemporary discourse around the future of humankind has increasingly come to focus on the menace that environmental degradation and climate change pose for the survival of our species. Global political movements demand an immediate ecological paradigm shift at all levels of society. Be it artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, big data, or bioengineering-the role that technology can and should play in this transformation is a matter of contentious debate. Amid a deluge of contradictory information about the state of the world and in the face of rapid technological progress, it is more and more difficult to get a firm grasp on where we stand.
The exhibition Survival of the Fittest-Nature and High Tech in Contemporary Art at Kunstpalais Erlangen showcases ten positions in art that harness photography, video, sculpture, installation, and performance to negotiate the complex interrelation between nature and advanced technology.
