Systeme zeichnerisch durchbrechen
Katrin von Lehmann (geb. 1959 in Berlin, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und Groß Glienicke) arbeitet an der Schnittstelle von Kunst und Wissenschaft. In der Auseinandersetzung mit naturwissenschaftlichen Theorien und Methoden sowie wissenschaftshistorischen Konzepten entwickelt von Lehmann performative Regelwerke und Techniken, die ihre künstlerische Praxis maßgeblich bestimmen. Es entstehen gelochte, perforierte und gefaltete Zeichnungen und Fotografien sowie raumgreifende Installationen.
Textura performativa 5 gibt einen umfassenden Einblick in von Lehmanns künstlerisches Schaffen der vergangenen neun Jahre. Im Zentrum stehen drei Werkserien, die seit 2012 im Kontext von Arbeitsaufenthalten an naturwissenschaftlichen und wissenschaftshistorischen Instituten entstanden sind: Blick auf Vielfalt (2012- 2014), Blackboard Drawing (2014-2015) und Proxy aus dem Projekt Leerstelle des Unbekannten/Nichts stimmt mehr (seit 2015). Die Arbeiten überführen Fragen nach menschlicher Vielfalt und Theorien und Methoden der molekularen Genetik und Klimaforschung in die künstlerische Praxis. Die Essays schrieben Hanne Loreck und Hans-Jorg Rheinberger. Mit einem Gesprach zwischen Lara Keuck und der Künstlerin und einer Einleitung von Rahel Schrohe.
Challenging systems with drawings
Katrin von Lehmann (b. Berlin 1959; lives and works in Berlin and Groß Glienicke, Germany) works on the interface between art and science. Grappling with theories and methods from the natural sciences and ideas in the history of science, von Lehmann develops sets of performative rules and techniques that define her artistic practice, creating pierced, perforated, and folded drawings and photographs and expansive installations.
Textura performativa 5 offers comprehensive insight into von Lehmann's output of the past nine years, showcasing three series she has produced since 2012 in connection with residencies at research institutions dedicated to the natural sciences and the history of science: Looking at Diversity (2012-14), Blackboard Drawing (2014-15), and Proxy from the project Empty Space of the Unknown/Nothing Is Right Now (since 2015). The works translate questions of human diversity and theories and research methods from molecular genetics and climate science into artistic practice. Hanne Loreck and Hans-Jorg Rheinberger contributed essays. With a conversation between Lara Keuck and the artist and an introduc- tion by Rahel Schrohe.
