Verhandlungssache Mexiko Stadt zeigt die mexikanische Metropole jenseits der Megacity-Superlative. Der Sammelband richtet den Blick auf den städtischen Alltag in dieser Metropole mit ihren 20 Millionen EinwohnerInnen.
Globale und lokale Restrukturierungsprozesse verändern derzeit das räumliche und soziale Gefüge von Mexiko Stadt: Orte, Nutzungsweisen und Aneignungsformen wandeln sich. Die wichtigste Triebkraft dieser Entwicklungen ist eine der Stadt eigene politische Kultur des informellen Aushandelns. Entgegen der normativ aufgeladenen Perspektive auf die Megastadt als"Schreckbild oder Chance"versucht das Buch, Facetten des täglichen Lebens und Wandels zu beschreiben und zu analysieren.
Gesellschaftliche Konflikte und räumlicher Wandel zeigen sich am deutlichsten im Zentrum und an den Peripherien der Stadt. Diesen Orten widmet sich die Publikation aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln, um urbane Wirklichkeiten und Vorstellungswelten der Metropole differenziert porträtieren zu können. Wissenschaftliche Analysen stehen hier neben journalistischen und literarischen Texten, (foto-)grafische Annäherungen werden mit stadtplanerischen, politik-, sozial- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Perspektiven kombiniert.

Verhandlungssache Mexiko Stadt shows the metropolis beyond the superlatives of a megacity. The perspectives of this anthology depart from everyday life of the twenty million inhabitants of Mexico City. Recent global restructuring processes have their impacts on the spatial and social patterns of the city: Places, their use and the different ways of appropriating spaces are changing. However, the political culture of informal negotiation - genuine to this city - remains the predominant transformer. Instead of taking the overloaded normative perspective of"Chance or Horror Scenario", the book attempts to describe and analyze the multiple facets of everyday life and its transformations.
Social conflicts and spatial change are particularly perceivable in the centre and the peripheries of the city. The compilation dedicates special interest to these locations in order to picture the urban imaginaries and realities from diverse points of view in a more differentiated way. Scientific analysis go along with reports and essays; (foto)graphic approximations are as well part of these approaches as urban planner s or sociologist s perspectives.
