Die Autoren Hans-Ulrich Duwendag und Wolfgang Völker stellen in dieser Fotodokumentation bisher unbekanntes Bildmaterial vor, das bei Ausbruch des Bürgerkriegs in Somalia 1991 - kurz vor der Zerstörung der Kathedrale von Mogadischu und des dortigen Archivs der Franziskanermissionare - gerettet werden konnte. Die Bilder aus der italienischen Kolonialzeit und aus den 80er-Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts führen uns eine afrikanische Stadt vor Augen, die einst den Beinamen "Perle des Indischen Ozeans" trug. Mogadischu und seine historischen Bauten sind heute fast alle zerstört. Mit diesem Buch werden die Stadt, ihre Menschen und ihr Umland wieder lebendig. Die Bildseiten sind ausführlich in Deutsch, Englisch und Italienisch beschriftet.In this photographic documentation, the authors Hans-Ulrich Duwendag and Wolfgang Völker present previously unknown pictures, which were rescued shortly before the outbreak of the civil war in Somalia in 1991 and the destruction of the cathedral of Mogadishu and of the archives of the Franciscan missionaries there. The pictures from the Italian colonial period and from the 80s of the 20th century keep us in mind an African city that was once called "Pearl of the Indian Ocean". Today, the old town of Mogadishu and almost all of its historical buildings are destroyed. With this book, the city, its people and its surroundings come to life again. The picture pages are extensively labelled in German, English and Italian.In questa documentazione fotografica, gli autori Hans-Ulrich Duwendag e Wolfgang Völker presentano immagini inedite, salvate poco prima ello scoppio della guerra civile in Somalia nel 1991 e della distruzione della cattedrale di Mogadiscio con gli archivi dei missionari francescani ad essa annessi. Le foto del periodo coloniale italiano e degli anni '80 del XX secolo ci ricordano una città africana che una volta si chiamava «Perla dell'Oceano Indiano». Oggi, la città vecchia di Mogadiscio e quasi tutti i suoi edifici storici sono stati distrutti. Con questo libro, la città, la sua gente e i suoi dintorni riprendono vita. Le immagini sono ampiamente corredate da didascalie in tedesco, inglese e italiano.
