Seine geradezu lyrische Kunst, ein Solo aufzubauen, seine Solotechnik im Oktavenstil sowie seine akkordisch-melodische Ausführung haben das Jazzgitarrenspiel revolutioniert. Montgomery bewies dieses innovative Verständnis auch bei der Gitarre als unbegleitetem Instrument. Dieser Band enthält die beiden einzigen Soloaufnahmen, die er für Riverside produziert hat: "Mi Cosa", eine Originalkomposition, die nicht auf der Original-LP, sondern bei der Wiederauflage auf CD als Bonus-Track unter dem Titel "Unidentified Solo Guitar" veröffentlicht wurde, und "While We're Young" von Alec Wilder, das auf "So Much Guitar" erschienen ist.
