This is a two-part book. The first part is a collection of 38 chapters, by contributors from European countries as varied as Byelorussia and Finland, collected and edited by Professor Peter Jarvis. Each chapter charts the development of adult education in that country by taking a historical overview of the training and organisational structure of adult education, and charting the progression of Government policy and legislation. The second part comprises of ten chapters written by Peter Jarvis which draw out the philosophical, historical and sociological themes from Part One and relates them to a discussion on the wider literature of adult education.
