So schreibt Laura Cumming in ihrer Review im Guardian (18/11/2018). Fiona Tan nimmt seit den späten 1990er Jahren eine bedeutende Position innerhalb der zeitgenössischen Kunst ein, ihre filmischen und fotografischen Werke sind durch zahlreiche wichtige internationale Biennalen und Ausstellungen bekannt geworden. Tans Arbeiten beschäftigen sich mit der Krise der Repräsentation und erforschen die Verortung des Menschen in Geschichte und Zeit. Sie zeugen von der tiefen Faszination der Künstlerin für die Wandelbarkeit von Identitäten, die trügerische Natur der Repräsentation und das Spiel der Erinnerung über die Grenzen von Raum und Zeit hinweg - in einer Welt, die zunehmend von einer globalisierten Kultur geprägt ist. Die beiden Publikationen erscheinen aus Anlass der ersten umfassenden Mid-career-Retrospektive der Künstlerin. Der Katalog bespricht Werke aus zwei Dekaden, die in parallelen Ausstellungen im Museum der Moderne Salzburg und der Kunsthalle Krems gezeigt werden und die neuen Videoarbeiten »Gray Glass« und »Pickpockets« beinhalten.

»Everything looks strange and new«
This is what Laura Cumming writes in her review in »The Guardian« (18/11/2018). Fiona Tan has occupied a pivotal position within contemporary art since the late 1990s; her moving-image and photographic artworks familiar from many key international biennials and exhibitions. Tan explores history and time and our place within them, working within the contested territory of representation. Deeply embedded in all of Fiona Tan's work is her fascination with the mutability of identity, the deceptive nature of representation and the play of memory across time and space in a world increasingly shaped by global culture. Both books mark the occasion of Fiona Tan's first extensive mid-career retrospective, presented concurrently at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg and Kunsthalle Krems. The exhibition catalogue, discusses the works drawn from two decades shown across both venues, including the newly commissioned video works »Gray Glass« and »Pickpockets«.
