Description
Peter Thomann raced sled dogs in the wilderness of Alaska while also pursuing a career as an architect hors piste, far from the fashions and injunctions of the market. For almost sixty years he has built schools, homes, and offices. He found his own spatial and constructive solutions thanks to his virtuoso handling of geometries, his love of materials, and his taste for unusual details. His buildings cannot be pinned to any particular trend, but they are in no way lacking in style. In its calm determination and constant renewal, Thomann's work testifies to a permanent refusal to stray onto well-trodden paths. This monograph, rich in photographic contributions and a wide range of historic documents, is an invitation to follow the highly idiosyncratic path of a much too little-known architect who continues to inspire today.
