The EU has achieved many goals in terms of fostering peace and relative prosperity which were long thought unattainable. Sixty years after its foundation, however, the EU is not only facing new European and global challenges, but also the possibility of its own downfall. In this volume, the authors address the tensions in Europe as well as their consequences for the global community and democracy.
