Scham und die deutschsprachige Literatur der Moderne

Das Werk untersucht aus kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive die Bedeutung von Schamgefühlen im Kontext von Selbst- und Fremddisziplinierungen. Die sich in der Moderne etablierenden Wissenschaften vom Menschen Psychoanalyse, Soziologie, anthropologische Philosophie fokussieren unterschiedliche Funktionszusammenhänge im Hinblick auf Schamgefühle, die in dieser Arbeit kritisch zueinander in Bezug gesetzt werden. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt dabei auf der Untersuchung literarischer Texte der deutschsprachigen Literatur der Moderne, dienen diese Texte sowohl als historische Artefakte als auch als ästhetische Vergegenwärtigungsstrategien von emotionalen Befindlichkeiten. In Auseinandersetzung mit Kleist, Sacher-Masoch, Kafka, Schnitzler, Jelinek und Genazino zeigt der Band, wie Literatur im ästhetischen Genuss eine reflektierte Auseinandersetzung mit Scham ermöglicht und sie so der Kritik zugänglich macht.
Shame, considered an emotion of self-management, is commonly regarded an agent of society. It acts within the subject and at the same time against the subject by degrading the self-esteem. Blushing for shame and a sudden faltering in the flow of action are visual signs which stigmatize the self in the name of common rules of decency. The discussion of how feelings of shame generally operate within society is what scientific disciplines such as anthropology, psychoanalysis and sociology deal with. Reviewing Kleist, Sacher-Masoch, Kafka, Schnitzler, Jelinek and Genazino, the author demonstrates that literature is capable to reflect feelings of shame on two levels: an emotional level and an intellectual level.

Dr. Michael Heidgen hat Neuere deutsche Literaturwissenschaft, Medienwissenschaft und Kulturwissenschaftliche Anthropologie studiert. Seit 2010 ist er Lehrkraft für besondere Aufgaben am Institut für Germanistik und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft der Universität Paderborn.
