The conventional cationic surfactants existing in the field of fabric softeners are diminishing worldwide on account of stringent environmental regulations. It is, therefore, need of the hour to synthesize fabric softening cationic molecules which shall impart remarkable softening and possess rapid and complete biodegradability. Esteramide quaternaries are, therefore, gaining edge over existing cationic species for fabric softening. The aim of the book is to provide latest information on synthesis and characterization of piperazine based esteramide quaternaries from renewable fatty feed stock. The physico-chemical and surface active properties of esteramide quats have also been studied thoroughly. Furthermore, development of cost- effective softeners derived from cheaper fatty acids has been emphasized.

Technical University, Lucknow.She is a Post Doctoral fellow at Laboratoy of Bioorganic Chemistry,NIDDK/NIH,Bethesda,MD,USA. Dr.V. K. Tyagi is Professor in Department of Oil & Paint Technology,HBTI,Kanpur, U.P., India.
