International cooperation becomes a keyword in higher education. In the past, cooperation between scholars from the North and the South, both in teaching and research, was predominantly characterized by dependent relationships. Looking at recent experiences from the European and African perspective, the authors of this book analyze the conditions for and recent efforts in academic cooperation between Europe and Africa and draw some lessons for an improved partnership in this cooperation.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Schmid ist seit 2002 Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Internationales Management und Strategisches Management an der ESCP-EAP Europäischen Wirtschaftshochschule Berlin. Studium in Augsburg, Paris, Oxford und Berlin (1988-93), anschließend Promotion (1996) und Habilitation (2002) in Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (2002), Ablehnung eines Rufes an die Universität Bayreuth (2004). Professor Schmid forscht zu Strategien, Strukturen und Kulturen internationaler Unternehmungen. An der ESCP-EAP ist er Academic Dean des Master s European Business auf gesamteuropäischer Ebene; er lehrt in verschiedenen Programmen im In- und Ausland auf Master-, Doktoranden-, MBA- und Executive-Education-Niveau.
