In two movements full of motion and intimacy, andante con moto and presto, the composer Norbert von Hannenheim, a master student of Schoenberg, explores the tonal space of the two instruments viola and piano. Influenced by the technique of his famous teacher, he expresses his own highly condensed musical vision. The strict tone rows and the original counterpoint, varied references and thematic cross-references in the just recently rediscovered sonata are imbued with a deep emotionality, shaped by the politically and artistically eventful decades of the first half of the 20th century.Instrumentation:viola and piano
