No other biblical text, compared to its length, is so frequently and extensively represented among the official sermon texts as the first epistle of Peter. Nevertheless, the first letter of Peter belongs to the unknown greats of the New Testament. No other text of the NT was as misunderstood as the letter of Jude. At the same time, only a few biblical writings are even remotely as substantial as the few verses in Jude's letter. Probably no other author of the NT was as misunderstood as that of the second letter of Peter. If the second epistle of Peter were missing from the biblical texts, few would miss it. But precisely the author of the second letter of Peter can serve today as a model for an enlightened handling of the message of the NT. The new commentary strives to do justice to both the three scriptures in their respective peculiarities and their authors. He wants to awaken understanding and inspire people to work with them.
